42. Travelogue Interlude | Etro

Latest thoughts, this time on socks, up at Men's Flair. And I just found out, in that the-internet-is-infinite-but-also-really-small kind of way, that Steve from Style Salvage also writes for the site.

Etro

When I started this blog it was never my intention to cover fashion shows or collections, especially considering so many others already do so. But when I came across the Etro show for Spring 2008, and then looked back at their Winter 2008 collection, I couldn't not comment. For in Etro I had finally found a fashion line that I'd be comfortable wearing head-to-toe.

Spring 2008

First of all, kudos for the Asian model - sure, he's still thin as a rake, but you take your victories where you can get them (more on the desexualization of the Asian male in a later post). Second - those shoes! That hat! The flower...meh. The bowtie! The fit of the blazer! At first glance I thought the pants were a little too Thom Browne-high, but looking at it again I see how the entire outfit flows.

Same comments as above, only insert adulation for the hair.

After looking at these pictures I have renewed courage to rock the bowtie in every day wear. I'm still debating the walking stick.

More dedicated minds than mine probably know this model's name. I've seen him in several shows and have become fascinated with the fact that he always seems to be wearing glasses. (Short rant - why does Vogue.com post the names of the female models but not the male models? That's sexist!)

My one quibble with Etro spring:

What is this? Who is wearing this look? Disappointing doesn't begin to describe it.

Winter 2008

As for the Winter collection I'm inclined to just post pictures from the entire season, although I must agree with Mr. Crompton - what is going on with that hat?

Here he is again! Mr. Crompton considers this look, while inspirational, more suited for eccentric automobile heirs. I disagree. I think if anything this look is remarkable for its restraint - even the peek of yellow belt is more a hint than a yell.

If anyone wants to buy that bag for me, I will politely accept.

I don't get it, but then I'm not that smart.
